The Kraaifontein school design responds to the need for safe and functional school environments in Cape Town by forming a visually responsive urban envelope around the site, with secure and friendly internal areas.
The buildings are structured around interrelated courtyards that allow alternative teaching and socialising spaces as well as teacher control and observation.
A wide landscaped central walkway provides opportunity for informal interaction of the school community.
Scale, natural features, familiar textures and bright colours are also used to create a sense of order, safety and homeliness for the learners.
