Protea Heights Academy is a Secondary School located on a site with a significant slope.

The classrooms are grouped in double banked large blocks that step from a single to double storey over the width of the school with courtyards overlooking the lower buildings to the distant views beyond.

Later additions to the school also implemented the stepped courtyard spaces with walkways with large open views over the rest of the school.

PHA is home to one of the more progressive academic schools in Cape Town. The design of the school included rainwater harvesting from 80% of its roofs, and a 100 000 liter tank farm for water storage. The addition of a major classroom block provided the opportunity to include an additional rainwater reservoir for 295 000 liters.
